Week 8: Winter Update, U.S. Elections, Cardinal Quarter
Dear students and families,
Once again, we are keeping our newsletter super short. We have just three topics: winter quarter, positive change, and the Cardinal Quarter Opportunities Fair.
Please know that the entire university is working very hard to bring our frosh, sophomores and first-year transfers here for winter quarter. The health and safety of all community members -- students, faculty and staff -- is at the center of our preparations. We'll have more to share with students and families shortly, and we remain optimistic for winter.
Work for Positive Change
This week, we all have been watching the U.S. election results, and as many have observed since before the election, the wait for a final tally will likely continue for some time. Regardless of the outcome, this election and the year that preceded it have made clear that we have work to do -- difficult and important work -- as a nation and a campus community moving forward.
While we’re all waiting for news, it bears remembering that the nature of positive change work is that it is continuous and ongoing. Creating a community of care, justice and inclusion doesn’t have a finish line. Similarly, education and personal growth aren’t finite propositions. We all have chosen this work as worth doing and this place as the community to inspire us. We can find shared purpose in our pursuits inside and outside the classroom.
Cardinal Quarter Opportunities Fair
Here’s an excellent example. The virtual Cardinal Quarter Opportunities Fair 5-6:30 p.m. PST Nov. 12 is an exciting way to explore 500+ opportunities to pursue a full-time spring or summer public service experience with Stanford support.
Through Cardinal Quarter fellowships and internships, you can build knowledge, skills, and networks while making meaningful contributions to communities locally, nationally, and around the world. Cardinal Quarter programs are offered through more than 30 campus partners at Stanford, with a wide range of service experiences, and fellowship stipends are provided to cover living expenses.
You can access the Cardinal Quarter fair site anytime to explore fellowships and internships, and plan your visit with program representatives during the fair timeframe.
We enjoy hearing from you!
